A German citizen, aged around 70, was found dead at his home in the municipality of Ponta do Sol after being reported missing.
The alert prompted PSP officers to visit the property and break in. Inside, they discovered the man showing no signs of life.
Due to the circumstances in which the body was found, the PSP referred the case to the Judiciary Police (PJ) to determine whether a third party may have been involved.
However, a forensic examination reportedly found no evidence of criminal involvement, and no further action will be taken. The body was transported to the Medical-Legal and Forensic Office in Funchal for an autopsy to establish the precise cause and circumstances of death.
