A complex rescue operation that mobilised several rescue teams, including the helicopter of the Regional Civil Protection Service and a dozen operatives from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters’ rescue team, ended this morning.
At issue was the disappearance of a tourist couple, a man aged approximately 55 years old, a woman in her 40s, and a 5-year-old child. Apparently, the family had been lost in the mountains of Boaventura, São Vicente, since yesterday.
At first, the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz, along with the Forest Police and the GNR, were called in to start rescue operations that continued through the night. When the search was unsuccessful, additional teams from the Madeiran Volunteers and the Civil Protection helicopter and crew were sent to provide additional support.
Luckily, the family was found unharmed.
