The body of a man was found floating in the sea off Almirante Reis Beach in Funchal early this morning (20th of September).
The alert was raised at approximately 06:45 by people in the area. Officers from the Funchal Maritime Police, together with the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters and the Judiciary Police, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
By the time Maritime Police officers arrived, firefighters had recovered the man from the water and brought him ashore. His death was confirmed at the scene by the local health authority.
Following initial investigations by the Judiciary Police and contact with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the body was transported to Madeira’s Medical-Legal and Forensic Office.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unknown.
The Maritime Police Psychology Office was also activated, while the Funchal Maritime Police Command coordinated the response.
