High winds have affected Madeira and the airport today, with a yellow wind and sea agitation warning in place until 06:00 on Tuesday.
The most intense gusts were recorded in exposed high-altitude areas. In Pico Alto, the wind reached 116 km/h at 03:20 am, still maintaining 108 km/h at 10:30. In Chão do Areeiro, the single gust reached 98 km/h, while at Santa Cruz Airport, gusts of up to 90 km were recorded km/h at 02:10.
In other parts of the archipelago, winds reached 78 km/h in Monte, 73 km/h in Prazeres, and 74 km/h in Selvagem Grande, values also compatible with the warning level in force.
At the Caniçal/Ponta de São Lourenço, the weather station recorded wind speeds below that recognised by a yellow wind warning, which is set at 70 km/h.
Approximately 40 flights were affected by weather conditions at Madeira’s International Airport.
