Wet Christmas Forecast

The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) released a special weather forecast for Christmas 2025 in the archipelago of Madeira, which predicts strong winds and showers between the 23rd and 26th of December.

According to the IPMA, from the 22nd to the 26th, the weather in the Madeira archipelago will be shaped by an anticyclone over the Azores, which will stretch northeast from the 23rd, and a low-pressure system over the Iberian Peninsula, bringing along a cold air mass.

Rain is forecast from Tuesday afternoon, predominatey on the north and mountainous areas of the island. Wind will be from the north/northwest, which will be strong at times.

The temperature should not undergo significant changes, presenting maximum temperature values between 19 and 21°C, ranging between 7 and 9°C in the highlands. The minimum temperature should vary between 14 and 16°C, being between 3 and 5°C in the highlands.

The island is currently under a yellow coastal event weather warning.
