Pre-Trial For Drugs Couple

A 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, arrested last year by the Judiciary Police during a drug trafficking operation in Câmara de Lobos and Funchal, will remain in custody at the Funchal Prison in Cancela until their trial.

The defendants were heard in the first interrogation court at the District Court of Madeira, where they were informed of the detention measures imposed, the most severe under the Penal Code.

This operation was carried out by the Judiciary Police, through the Criminal Investigation Department of Madeira, with the collaboration of three canine teams of the National Republican Guard (GNR), as they searched three properties, one in Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.

The PJ stated that during the operation, which followed several months of investigation in an inquiry led by the DIAP of Funchal, various narcotic substances were seized. These included around 30 kilos of synthetic cannabinoids (Gorby) and cannabis in bulk, an amount equivalent to roughly 50,000 individual doses.

Additionally, the PJ confirmed that regionally, and since the opening of the Madeira branch of the Scientific Police Laboratory, “this was the largest seizure of synthetic narcotic base products.”

Two top-of-the-range vehicles were also seized, plus five thousand euros in cash and a vacuum packaging machine.
