Saturday in the Park – Cory’s Shearwater

The Funchal City Council(CMF) is hosting another Saturday in the Park on the 27th of September between 10:00 and 13:00.  The initiative is dedicated to the Cory’s Shearwater and the MAC Puffinus BestLife 2030 Conservation Project.

The Cory’s Shearwater is a species of migratory seabird that, in Madeira, is listed as a vulnerable species on the conservation status, and whose study of its populations is limited by the inaccessibility to its nesting areas. In this session, special emphasis will be given to the ecology of the Cory’s Shearwater as well as the MAC Puffinus BestLife 2030 conservation project, which aims to implement a long-term conservation strategy for this species in Macaronesia.

The activity will be conducted by researcher Elena J. Soto, MARE – Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences, and Gonçalo Rodrigues, an Ecology Master’s from the University of Coimbra, who developed his thesis on the ecology and vocal behaviour of the Cory’s Shearwater.

“This session will provide an excellent opportunity for attendees to deepen their knowledge about this beautiful seabird.

Entry to the event is free, but spaces are limited to 30 people. If you are interested in attending, you must register at: https://forms.gle/2pQwtcYC9qyqAH9S8.
