Nurses Unhappy With Recruitment Process

The National Union of Nurses (SNE) once again denounced the lack of response from the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) to the questions posed about the recruitment process of nurse managers, considering that the situation confirms “the inadequacy of the Nursing Direction.”

In a press release, the union stated that it has openly criticized “the failure to utilise Recruitment Grants of Common Tender Procedures for filling vacant positions in hospital health and primary health care, as mandated by current legislation. Instead, Specialist Nurses are being appointed to management roles or assigned as service managers, bypassing the Recruitment Grants in place, which could represent a significant irregularity.”

The union recalls that it asked SESARAM for clarification, “but its inability to respond to the problems of nurses is increasingly pronounced.”

For the union, “leaders must have knowledge, competence, and commitment to the strategic lines defined, especially in an area as relevant to all citizens as health.”

In the same note, the union stresses that it has called “several times for the regularisation of the situation, to guarantee justice, equal opportunities, good faith, transparency and equity, especially in an area as sensitive and relevant as the Management of Nursing care; fundamental for ensuring quality and safety for citizens who use the Health services of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.  This, they say, is not the case, believing the direction of the  Directorate of Nursing at SESARAM is unsustainable.”

So far, they state, no one from SESARAM has contacted them to discuss their report.
