Last Thursday, the daily mortality through heat-related deaths reached a peak of 345, with more than half being over 85 years old.
Since last Friday, the number of deaths in Portugal due to heat has been above 300 per day. The IPMA predicts that maximum temperatures will remain high until the end of next week, especially in the interior.
Temperatures are expected to and could exceed 40 degrees.
