Funchal city centre is being mapped by an operator equipped with a Google Trekker camera, intended to capture images for the Street View service. The high-tech backpack, photographed this Monday in the streets of the downtown area, allows you to capture 360-degree panoramic images, even in places inaccessible to vehicles.
This equipment, developed by Google, was designed to facilitate the collection of images in pedestrian areas, historic areas or nature trails. The latest version of the Trekker is lighter, has high-resolution sensors and a lens with a larger aperture, resulting in a significant improvement in image quality.
Through Google’s loan programme, institutions such as municipalities, tour operators, or cultural entities can use Trekker to show the world their territories and heritage, sharing the results directly on Google Maps.
The device has already been used in emblematic places such as Petra, Venice, and Yosemite, and is now capturing new angles of the city of Funchal.
