The Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) has been notified of the purchase of the entirety of Tirgal – Transitários de Portugal by the Sousa Group’s GS Marítima, it was announced today.
On its website, the AdC states that it received, on the 8th of July 2025, “prior notification of a merger of companies.”
The transaction in question consists of the acquisition, by GS Marítima, Lda. (“GS Marítima”), of sole control over TIRGAL – Transitários de Portugal Lda, (“Tirgal”).
GS Marítima is an active company, directly and through subsidiaries, in the maritime cargo transport and integrated logistics sector, which is part of the Sousa Group. A maritime-port group with activities in the logistics, energy, and tourism sectors and headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
In turn, Tirgal provides freight forwarding services, essentially by sea for containerised and conventional cargo, from the ports of Lisbon and Leixões to the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the Autonomous Region of the Azores, and West Africa (São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, and Angola).
