Weaving and Tapestry Week

During the 14th and 19th of October the Institute of Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts of Madeira (IVBAM) located at Rua dos Ferreiros, 152, will host “Weaving and Tapestry Week.” The workshops highlight traditional arts and crafts, incorporating new approaches that combine traditional and contemporary methods.

The IVBAM has prepared a programme that includes the participation of various specialists using weaving and tapestry as a form of artistic expression. 

• Exhibition and sale of pieces by: Jenita Spínola, “Maiu & Sucri” and Olívia Silva;

• Exhibition “Threads with history – Tapestry and Weaving of Madeira,” with works by IVBAM and authorised producers of Madeira Embroidery, Bordal – Bordados da Madeira and Patrício & Gouveia, as well as artisans with certification recognized by IVBAM, Jenita Spínola, and Olívia Silva. This exhibition will also feature a work of Interactive Tapestry: Tapest[o]ry, by Laura Santos, a master in “Interactive Media Design,” a piece that combines the tactile capabilities of weaving with capacitive sensor technology, creating an interactive immersive media artistic installation that tells a story, with an educational component.

• Workshops: Introduction to Weaving | Trainer: Jenita Spínola | October 14th, 17th, and 19th. Schedule: October 14th and 17th from 13:00 to 17:00 | Day 19 from 10:00 – 14:00.

Places are strictly limited to 5 people per workshop | Cost: 30 euros (material included).

Interactive Presentation: “Crafts & Technology” – Tapest[o]ry | Interactive Tapestry, accompanied by the author of the work, Laura Santos, on the 14th to 18th October – 14:00 to 14:20.

Introduction to Tapestry | Trainer: Nídia Freitas | October 15th and 16th. Opening hours: from 10:00 am to 14:00.

Places are strictly limited to 5 people per workshop | Cost: 10 euros (material included).

Please note that all those interested in attending must register their interest via email at: promocao.ivbam@madeira.gov.pt.

During this time the IVBAM facilities, at Rua dos Ferreiros, 152, will also be open from 10:00 – 17:00.  However during this week opening times change to (14th – 18th) 10:00 – 17:00 and on the 19th 10:00 – 14:00.

Admission is free admission.
