Helicopter Rescue of Lithuanian Citizen

The Civil Protection helicopter was activated today to rescue a 50-year-old Lithuanian woman who was too exhausted to continue walking between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo.

According to a Civil Protection source, a team from the Santana Volunteer Firefighters was activated “to approach and stabilise the victim, however, given the distances she was from the main road, and the high temperatures recorded at the site, it was deemed necessary to request aerial assistance.”

Upon arrival at the premises of the Regional Civil Protection Service, the citizen was assisted and transported to the Accident and Emergency department of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital by an ambulance from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters.

The Regional Civil Protection Service points out that this was “the 34th successful operation which has resulted in the rescue of 35 people.
