Air Sea Rescue Saves Couple and Their Cat

The Portuguese Air Force rescued two people and a cat last Friday when their vessel ran into trouble 257 km off the coast of Porto Santo.

Struggling in high seas, the vessel’s rudder failed, and without an autopilot their situation soon became desperate.  A search and rescue operation was quickly put into action, and an EH-101 Merlin helicopter and its crew were dispatched to the scene.

Both the couple and their cat were rescued, and the couple were taken to the Porto Santo health centre for evaluation.
