The walkway connecting Praia Formosa to Socorridos is closed to pedestrian traffic for preventive reasons.
The measure was taken by the Metropolitan Development Society, in close coordination with the Maritime Police and the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Funchal.
According to the institution’s press release, the decision is preventive and aims to safeguard the physical integrity of those who regularly use that coastal infrastructure.
In the coming days, teams will be mobilised to carry out various technical works on site. These interventions will serve to “assess the real safety conditions” of the walkway, serving as a basis for an eventual and future reopening to the public.
The Metropolitan Development Society also appeals to the understanding and collaboration of the entire population in the face of the inconvenience caused. The entity also stresses that this is a “responsible decision, which aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all.”
