Today, at the Ponta Gorda Bathing Complex, the ‘Smoke-Free Beach’ initiative was presented. The project brings together the Funchal Municipal Council (CMF), Frente MarFunchal and the Regional Health Directorate to promote healthier lifestyles and create safer, health-promoting environments.
The initiative aims to prevent and discourage the use of tobacco and related products, including heated tobacco products and electronic cigarettes, through the introduction of designated smoking areas within municipal bathing complexes.
Its main objectives include reducing the exposure of children, young people and adults to second-hand smoke and aerosols, raising public awareness of environmental sustainability and responsible behaviour at bathing areas, and reducing the number of cigarette butts and other tobacco-related waste left on the region’s beaches.
