ADN Highlight Port Irregularities

The ADN Political Party – National Democratic Alternative has responded to a news article published in Correio da Manhã, which reports “a private warehouse in Poro Santo that the GNR cannot supervise.” They then identified the facility as belonging to the Porto Santo Line, which had complained that GNR inspections hindered their service operations.  Moreover, the paper also states that the courts have upheld the PSL’s petition, and GNR inspections are prohibited.

In the note sent to JM, Miguel Pita said that he became aware of “the dangerous and inexplicable judicial decision of the TAFF – Administrative Fiscal Court of Funchal, which decided to prevent the inspection of the GNR – National Republican Guard to a warehouse belonging to the Porto Santo Line, because according to the complainant’s argument the inspections of this authority “disturb the normal functioning of the company.”

Responding to this, the ADN warns of the “dangerous precedent created so that in the future other private companies can have the same “privileged” treatment using the same argument, thus making Porto Santo a ‘virtual’ Free Port, where all goods can arrive and be stored without the necessary supervision of the customs authorities and GNR.”

“ADN – Madeira considers that this unfortunate decision by TAFF weakens GNR supervisory authority, and that there can be no exceptions, whether individually or collectively, as well as creating a feeling of impunity and disbelief in the fight against illegal trafficking of goods for Madeiran and Porto Santo citizens.”
