“At a time when concerns are growing about illegal car racing and dangerous driving on Madeira’s roads, a group of automotive enthusiasts is preparing to present a concrete and responsible alternative.” More specifically, on the 14th of June, Praia Formosa will host an event that brings together approximately 300 vehicles and promises to mark the beginning of a new approach to car culture in the region.
“The initiative comes from the future Association of Engineering, Design and Automotive Culture of Madeira (AEDCAM) — an entity in the process of formalisation, but already active in the promotion of good practices, training, and road safety. The event, which includes a car exhibition, aims to offer a legal, safe, and organized alternative to the informal and illegal gatherings that have proliferated across the island,” informs the organisation.
“Our goal is clear: to create a space for healthy socialising, sharing, and respect, especially aimed at young people and car enthusiasts,” says Marta Pereira, President of the association’s installation committee. “We want people to feel part of a community, without resorting to clandestinity or driving dangerously on our roads.”
The production of the event is in charge of the professional Diogo António Santos Bicho, with the support of the entity responsible for the area where part of the exhibition will take place.
“The choice of Praia Formosa is because of the cross diversity of people who use the area during the summer months, and aims to bring audiences of all ages together, from the curious to passionate motor enthusiasts. To avoid traffic constraints, a circulation and parking plan will be in force. Entry and exit of all vehicles will be through the eastern section of the shipyard. These will all be signposted.
In addition to the exhibition, the event will be attended by law enforcement agencies, demonstrating that it is possible to create an all-encompassing event for everyone.
An awards ceremony is scheduled for 19:30, that will also mark the public launch of AEDCAM’s mission, “with the presentation of its objectives: to value automotive culture, combat illegal practices, promote automotive design and engineering, as well as organise events within the legality and with a positive impact on the community.”
