Bus drivers from Horários do Funchal will go on a 48-hour strike, scheduled for the 25th and 26th of June. The industrial action was confirmed by Manuel Oliveira, from the National Union of Drivers and Other Workers (SMNOT).
He explained that the deadline for the Regional Government to accept the demands of the workers had passed with no response from the governing enterties and as such the strike will go ahead.
At issue is a request for a salary update equal to that of the minimum wage, which will be the equivalent of an extra 30 euros per month for each worker. Manuel Oliveira regrets that Miguel Albuquerque, after taking office in April, has not yet responded to requests for a meeting by the union.
