A Weekend of Yachts

Seven mega-yachts began arriving yesterday, in what APRAM believes is a positive response to the quality of the services provided to this type of “very demanding and exclusive” market.

“The growing demand for the Port of Funchal by luxury mega-yachts confirms Madeira’s strategic positioning in the Atlantic and the quality of our port services,” says the President of the board of directors of APRAM, Paula Cabaço.  In addition, he adds that it is “a clear sign of confidence, which values the image of the Region and contributes to boosting our economy.”

APRAM assumes that this is a strategic option of the Regional Secretariat for the Economy for the growth of the port of Funchal, both in recreational tourism and in stopovers for the supply of large yachts, in the Region

The first to arrive in Funchal was the ‘Hemisphere’, which entered the port at 8:45 am on Friday, coming from Antigua, with UK captain Gavin Bladen and seven crew members on board.  The yacht will remain in port until Sunday, when it will leave for Gibraltar at 08:00.

Similarly, the ‘Naema’ arrived yesterday at 10:00 from Cadiz. On board are 10 crew members and German captain Frorian Franke. The yacht will remain until Monday, when it will depart for Hamilton at 08:00.

Two hours later, the ‘Berilda’ arrived at 12:45 and the ‘BoardWalk’ at 13:00. The Berilda has ten crew members overseen by American Captain Joe Gallegos. The ship sailed from Saint George and will remain in harbour until midday on Monday, when it will leave for Amsterdam. The ‘Boardwa’ has 13 crew members and is en route to Gibraltar from Fort Lauderdale.

Today, the port only received one arrival, the Avanti.  The vessel arrived at 17:00 and departed at 19:00. The vessel is captained by Stephen Burhe. There are 14 crew members onboard.

Two yachts are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. The ‘Silver Shalis’ is scheduled to arrive at 08:00 and carries 12 crew members. The mega-yacht is expected to leave Funchal at 08:00 on Tuesday, heading for Gibraltar, after a stopover in Tortola.

Finally, the ‘Pamela V’ is scheduled to arrive at 09:00 from Nassau.  The ship is captained by Croatian Ante Lovrovic, and carries seven crew members onboard.  They are scheduled to depart for Gibraltar on Monday at 11:30.
