Greater AL Inspections Needed

The municipal deputy elected by the Earth Party (MPT) has expressed his support for the proposal presented by the Trust Coalition regarding the strengthening of the inspection of local accommodation establishments (AL) in the Municipality of Funchal.

“As a political force of a humanist matrix, which places human dignity, social justice and the common good at the centre of its priorities, the MPT understands that the proliferation of illegal accommodation and the practice of overcrowding constitute serious obstacles to urban balance, social cohesion and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, namely the right to housing and tranquility,” states a party spokesperson.

The MPT considers it “urgent and necessary” to ensure that all operators in the local accommodation sector act within the legal framework, comply with the established safety, health, and capacity standards, and contribute fairly to the collective fiscal effort.

“Reality shows us, however, that there are still numerous cases of irregular exploitation, with a negative impact on the lives of local communities and the image of Funchal as a sustainable tourist destination.”

The Earth Party, therefore, considers the proposal in question to be meritorious and pertinent, as it provides for the intensification of inspections, rapid action in case of serious infractions, the creation of the Municipal Police and the implementation of information and reporting campaigns accessible to the population.

“We reaffirm our commitment to responsible, transparent and people-centred governance, promoting solutions that respect both the rights of residents and the integrity of the tourism sector,” the party concludes.
