Helicopter Mission to Rescue French Tourist

The Heliborne Brigade successfully rescued a French tourist who fell while walking along the Pico Ruivo pedestrian route.

“As soon as the distress call was received a search and rescue team from the Santana Volunteer Firefighters was immediately activated.  They were given further support by a team of officers from the National Republican Guard, who were first on the scene and managed to stabilise the victim.  Due to the location, the helicopter brigade were called in to assist,

Once the immobilised tourist arrived at the Air Resource Centre of the Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM, they were immediately transported to the A & E department of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.

Concluding, a spokesperson for the Regional Civil Protection Service added that this was the first rescue mission of this kind this year, and the 27th successful mission since the heliborne brigade came into force.
