The road between the Hotel Montanha and the Pináculo viewpoint was closed this morning following a rockfall caused by planned works by the Funchal City Council (CMF).
The road was closed for several hours due to preventative action and road cleaning. According to local newspaper, JM, the PSP, and the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Funchal are also on-site, technicians from the Regional Directorate of Roads (DRE) and technicians from the Funchal Municipality.
The works were carried out as a preventative measure to a hypothetical risk situation in the area.
The viewpoint, although beautiful, has been shrouded in sadness as several suicides have taken place at the site.
