Pisa da Luva

Tomorrow, the 11th of September, the Pisa da Uva will take place in the parish of Arco de São Jorge in collaboration with the Museum of Wine and Vine and the Institute of Embroidery Wine and Handicrafts of Madeira at the Museum of Wine and Vine (Museu do Vinho e da Vinha).

Through the use of one of its three mills, the museum aims to promote an interest and historical look at grape harvesting in Arco São Jorge.

The programme includes grape picking, transportation of the grapes to the mill in typical baskets, grape treading, tasting, and the sweetening of the palate with traditional sweets and bread, all combined with musical entertainment.

The “programme is aimed at tourists.” However, all visitors can participate in the planned events.

Wine and Vine Museum

It should be noted that the Museum of Wine and Vine is located in the Experimental Field of Viticulture of Arco de São Jorge. The museum’s exhibitions portray the customs and tools used over the centuries in the production of regional wine. Exhibits include donated tools used in viticulture.

The museum also houses a production unit called Sweets and Traditions, which sells homemade bread, honey cakes, bread, and wickerwork, and a wine, bread, honey cake, and biscuit tasting experience.
