The Forest Police and the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz carried out a search and rescue operation this afternoon when two Czech tourists went missing.
Speaking to JM, a civil protection source said that the two tourists are well and apparently uninjured; they were lost in the Pessegueiros area, a renowned beauty spot filled with exotic species.
A mountain rescue and rescue team from the São Vicente and Porto Moniz Volunteer Firefighters was involved in the search, and it was later discovered that the woman had hurt her foot.
Both were found by firefighters who then arranged for them to be airlifted back to the civil protection base by helicopter. After being evaluated by a medical team, the woman was taken to hospital by ambulance.
