After receiving a Mayday call at 23:06 via a ship moored in the port of Funchal, the crew of the Funchal Lifeguard Station immediately sailed to the site. Upon arrival, the rescue team confirmed that the two crew members were physically well, but that the sailboat was taking on water and the engines had failed.
After stopping further water from flooding the vessel, they towed the ship back to Funchal harbour, after first making sure that the two crew members were safely onboard the rescue boat.
The original article suggested that the ship had run aground.
