Electricity V Gas

The production of electricity in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), estimated from electricity emission data provided by Empresa Eletricidade da Madeira (EEM), increased by 1.5% in the 1st quarter of 2023, year-on-year.

Compared to the period from January to March 2022, there was a greater preponderance of photovoltaic sources (+9.7%) and thermal sources (+19.4%) in energy production, to the detriment of wind (-32.3%), hydro (-14.2%) and municipal solid waste (-7.7%).

Consequently, the share of total energy emitted using thermal sources increased from 54.7% in the 1st quarter of 2022 to 64.4% in the reference quarter, with the share of renewables reaching 35.6% in the period under review (45.3% in the same quarter last year).

It should be noted the loss of the preponderance of natural gas as a source for the production of electricity, concentrating 6.2% of the total, (20.2% in the same period in 2022), having verified a drop of 69.0% compared to the same period of the same year, in the production of electricity from this source.
