Tourist Rescued After Fall

A 69-year-old woman was rescued by the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters (BVM) this afternoon.

The incident occurred when a couple of tourists decided to walk along the Levada do Bom Sucesso, which is not part of the Recommended Pedestrian Route (PPR).  Unfortunately, the woman fell and suffered severe trauma to her lower limbs, making it impossible for her to walk.

After contacting 112, the mountain rescue team managed to stabilise the woman’s condition and carry her to safety. She was then quickly transported to A & E.
