Mandatory Mask Wearing Continues

Today, during the Governing Council meeting at Quinta Vigia, those present approved the continued use of masks in all indoor spaces as a way of promoting and safeguarding public health.  The current situation will remain in place until 23:59 on the 14th of May 2022.  

As a way on controlling the pandemic, it was agreed that mask use reduces the risk of contagion of the SARS – CoV-2 virus and other airborne bacterial or viral infections.

When asked about people visiting the island, the President of Madeira stressed that the “resident population and citizens who visit us are required to wear a mask in closed spaces, with the exceptions that are already public knowledge.”

In addition, it was also confirmed that other basis pandemic prevention measures will remain in place. 

To date, 269 people have died from Covid-19.
