In meetings with both the Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado and José Prada, Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, a delegation from the Cruz de Malta Humanitarian Association, comprising of Lieutenant Colonel João Alvelos, chairman of the board and Admiral Luís Fragoso, former Chief of Staff, chairman of the General Assembly, discussed the possibility of collaborating with the Municipality of Funchal to create a work space for the organisation so that it can continue to develop its activities.
During their last campaign, launched by Pingo Doce, the support and generosity of the Madeirans almost outstripped that of the mainland (Madeira – 40 stores, Portugal – 300). Therefore, the association arranged meetings with the island’s principle political and religious leaders to thank them and the Madeiran’s for their kindness and support.
The Cruz de Malta is a humanitarian association, whose mission primarily focuses on providing social support and discussed ways they could tailor their objectives to meet the needs of the island’s elderly with regards to loneliness, provide disaster relief, as well as try and integrate people with disabilities into their local communities.
The Cruz de Malta Humanitarian Association was founded in 1918 by both military personnel and Knights of the Order of Malta.
