Palliative Care Solidarity Run

On Saturday, the 9th of October, approximately one hundred people participated in a solidarity race, promoted by SESARAM, to mark World Palliative Care Day.

The run or walk, which started at Praça do Mar aimed to raise awareness of the need for equity in Palliative Care, to ensure that no one is left behind.  Palliative Care is “designed to relieve symptoms, and improve  quality of life. It can be used at any stage of an illness if there are troubling symptoms, such as pain or sickness. It can also be used to reduce or control the side effects of cancer treatments.” (Cancer Research UK).

According to Globocan, Portugal registered 60,467 new cases of cancer in 2020.
