Tourist Dies in Fall

The 51-year-old French tourist who fell yesterday from Levada do Risco, in Rabaçal has died.
The fall happened at a dangerous section of the levada walk, when the French walker followed a guide from another group, and ended up falling from a considerable height.
Despite the immense four hour search and rescue mission, which comprised of 14 operatives from the Calheta Volunteer Firefighters, a forestry police team and Public Security Police (PSP) officers, the tourist died from their injuries.
The incident is currently under investigation by the coroners office, who will decide whether to investigate the incident further, or authorise an autopsy before allowing the body to be released.
