Aircraft – 90% Occupancy

The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, believes that this summers tourism conditions are on track, especially as most airlines flying to Madeira are reporting aircraft occupancy rates of 90% and above.  Of course, this is dependent on the evolution of the pandemic.

Eduardo Jesus, was talking to reporters during the presentation of a ‘Madeira Safe to Discover Certificate’ to the Euromar Travel Agency, saying “everything indicates, and providing the pandemic situation does not worsen, the outlook for this summer is good. And as such, we can foresee growth within the tourism sector into the winter period.”

He went on to say that the number of aircraft seats available in July are almost in line with those in 2019, and that this August, the figures will be slightly higher than their 2019 counterparts.  This means that Madeira as a whole, has responded very quickly in terms of creating the conditions for a ‘safe holiday destination.  Furthermore, “we have been following the evolution of hotel reservations in both Madeira and Porto Santo, and this week we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of bookings compared to the last couple of weeks.”

Regarding the ‘Madeira Safe to Discover Certificate, he added that during these pandemic times it is “vital that the Regional Government proves that we are actively working to create a safe environment, and this certificate shows that we are dedicated to the protection of Madeira and Porto Santo for all its citizens, and those who choose to holiday here.

Furthermore, our continuity of carrying out PCR tests at the island’s airports is a very important safety factor, as these tests represent security, and our pro-active management of the pandemic on a day-to-day basis.”
