Ecological Park Has New Walking Route

The Funchal City Council (CMF) has announced that the Funchal Ecological Park now has a new 2.2 km walking route between Ribeira das Cales and Levada do Barreiro.

President of the CMF Miguel Silva Gouveia, accompanied by Vice-President Idalina Perestrelo, invited members of the press to walk with them along the new trail, explaining that this new route allows for the connection between the park’s reception centre, located in Ribeira das Cales, and Levada do Barreiro, thus providing all visitors with a 10 km circular walking route which meanders through noted places of interest such as Poço da Neve.

While walking, the President of the CMF said: “We want to make the people of Funchal, the whole population, and those who visit us aware of the outstanding beauty of the local flora and fauna that the Ecological Park has to offer, making this a pleasant and safe leisure area.”

The Municipality has improved all the recommended routes and carries out periodic cleaning and repair work, pathway restoration as well as updating signage and signposts, and viewpoint restoration among other things.

At the beginning of this year, the municipality invested around 100 thousand euros for the cleaning and clearing of 41 km of pedestrian paths, unblocking waterways and park maintenance.
