Figures published by SESARAM over the weekend, show that 139 Madeirans have contracted Covid-19 after being vaccinated. In the wake of this, SESARAM, has stressed that despite the number of incidences of infection, the vaccine is the best treatment against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
In his statement, the clinical director of SESARAM, José Júlio Nóbrega said that, “even with the vaccine, which is highly effective, some of those vaccinated became unwell and tested positive for Covid-19, including a doctor. Unfortunately, some of the cases have been severe.”
According to the most recent data, 132 people became infected after taking the first dose and seven after the second dose. As of the 8th of March, some 27,853 people have been vaccinated since the vaccination programme started on the 31st of December 2020.
Even if you have been vaccinated, José Júlio Nóbrega went on to say, you must still wear a mask, adhere to social distancing rules and frequently wash your hands. It is a vaccine, not a miracle drug!
Madeira recorded its first Covid-19 case on the 16th of March 2020.
