While Presenting the ‘Madeira Safe to Discover’ certificate to Calheta Travel Agency RMK Tours, the Regional Secretary for Culture and Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, stated that he expects tourism to show signs of recovery in the second half of this year, as there will be a holiday ‘demand boom’ as more and more people are vaccinated and travel restrictions are lifted.
“Everything” he said “will depend on the vaccination programme. We estimate that it will be possible for tourism to re-start later this year especially as Madeira is focusing hard on pandemic safety. This will put us in an ideal position as we will be seen as a safe island and this will generate confidence in the people we want to attract to the island.” For Madeira, this commitment is clear and by certifying the region as a ‘Safe Destination’ is the best way to respond to the challenge of promoting tourism.”
