UK Corona Strain Found in Madeira

Following the genetic analysis of samples taken from passengers arriving from the UK, as requested by the Regional Health Directorate, one of the samples taken is said to contain the presence of the new UK, SARS – CoV-2 strain.

According to a note sent by the Regional Health Secretary, the identification of the new strain was only possible due to the work developed by the Screening Centre at the Madeira International Airport, which allows the tracking, identification and quarantine of positive cases, when detected.

The same note explains that the regional strategy for detecting and controlling the pandemic COVID-19 remains focused on the surveillance of passengers and compliance with guidelines issued by health authorities, thus reducing the risk of contagion with the new coronavirus in the Region.

In this sense, the Government is once again reinforcing the importance of complying with Health guidelines during the festive season. “It is important to celebrate Christmas, but in a safe way.”
