The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA), has confirmed that an earthquake registering 1.9 earthquake on the Richter Scale was recorded off the west coast of Porto Moniz this morning at 05.52.
Yesterday morning the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) recorded a 1.5 magnitude earthquake, 30 km off the southeast coast of Funchal at 06.59. The tremor had a depth of 3 km.
The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea, has placed the north coast of Madeira and Porto Santo under yellow warning due to maritime unrest, as waves on the northwest of the island could reach 4 metres in height. The warning will remain in place until 6 pm today.
