This week, Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) deputy Ricardo Lume visited the parish of Curral das Freiras to discuss with the local population and farmers the brutal loss of cherry and sour cherry production in the parish due to the extreme weather conditions that have impacted negatively on crop production. In addition, the deputy also wanted to present a legislative initiative drawn up by the PCP which aims to guarantee support for cherry producers during this difficult time.

Madeira should not be affected by the dust cloud from the Sahara, which is expected to hit the Iberian Peninsula on Tuesday.
The Regional Civil Protection Service has placed Madeira under an orange alert for heavy rain from 3 pm to 9 pm tomorrow, the 17th of June.
Madeira will be under yellow warning due to heavy rain from midday Wednesday the 17th to 09.00 Thursday the 18th.
Madeira is currently under an orange warning due to periods of heavy rain or showers accompanied by occasional thunderstorms.
According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the Region will be under yellow warning from 10 am tomorrow, the 5th of June, due to periods of heavy rain and the thunderstorms.
According to weather forecaster CROS and the Institute of Atmosphere and Sea, between the 1st and 7th of June, bad weather will affect the north, northwest and west of Madeira.
