Russian Ship Escorted Off Portuguese Coast

On Saturday the 25th, the Portuguese Navy escorted another Russian ship out of Portuguese territorial waters in what has been described by the General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGFA), as "a normal surveillance procedure of maritime spaces under national sovereignty or jurisdiction, where warships from non-NATO countries sail in Portuguese waters."

House Valuations at All Time High

According to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in January 2023, the median bank valuation value of housing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) stood at  1,502 euros/m2, an increase of 1.0% compared to the previous month and +16.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. This value constitutes a new maximum of property values. 

Madeira Suffering Highest Inflation Rate Since 1993

Throughout January of this year, the average change recorded by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (AMR), – Total General – was 7.4%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points (p.p.) than in the previous month (+7.0%). It is the highest value for this indicator since June 1993, according to the Regional Directorate of Nationality of Madeira (DREM).
