Bar Brawl in Funchal

The PSP were called out to a bar located on Rua 31 de Janeiro this evening (07/08).  Apparently, a ‘discussion’ got out of hand, and the police were asked to intervene.  One of those involved was later assisted by an ambulance crew. Samantha Gannon info at madeira-weekly.com

Mandatory Mask Update

Adherence to the new mandatory mask wearing ruling seems a bit hit and miss at the moment judging from observations in my local town, where it would appear that the majority of women are obeying the new ruling while men, of a certain age, seem to believe they are exempt.

Risks Justify Masks

The President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, again justified the use of masks by saying that the exponential increase in positive cases of Covid-19 in Madeira does not surprise the Regional Government, which, for this very reason, they enforced the use of masks outdoors. 

Mask Use Clarified

Mask use has to be one of the most emotive subjects to have arisen for a long time, with everyone from Ex-Presidents to workers decrying the Regional Governments (RG) decision to bring in the use of mandatory mask wearing from tomorrow.  

Jumping the Gun!

4,000 And Counting

As of 7 pm this evening 4,000 people had signed the petition against the use of mandatory face masks in all public spaces, which is due to come into force this Saturday, the 1st of August.

Fines for Non-Mask Users

Following the Regional Government's compulsory mask wearing decision yesterday, the 28th of July, the coalition government has once again reiterated that masks must be worn in all public spaces from the 1st of August, including streets, beaches and mountain areas.
