According to witnesses at the scene where the body of a 40 - 50-year-old man was recovered from the sea near the Porto Novo pier in Santa Cruz, the man must have stopped his car, stripped off his clothes and plunged into the sea close to the pier.
A 43-year-old fisherman was rescued by the Navy this morning from the 'Lontra Marinha', who was sailing 30 nautical miles off the southeast coast, after an alert was received by the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcentre (MRSC Funchal) stating that a crew member felt unwell.
