The highest weather station in the network of the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) in the archipelago of Madeira, located at Pico do Areeiro, recorded extremes between -1.7 ºC and -0.2 ºC, between 07:00 and 13:00 today.
The weather station has been recording temperatures below freezing all week. On Tuesday, March the 3rd, the region experienced its coldest day of the autumn/winter season, with both the lowest minimum and maximum temperatures hitting around -2.9 ºC.
Along with the low temperatures, there has also been little precipitation (1.8 mm).
In Chão do Areeiro, sub-zero temperatures were also recorded, but not as low as in Pico do Areeiro. At 07:10 today, the thermometers read -0.2 °C.
Snowfall and rain were further predicted for today.
