Approximately 240 patients were treated in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital on Monday within a short space of time. Despite the positive response from the professionals, the high influx caused constraints in the emergency means, with ambulances being immobilised due to a lack of stretchers.
On Tuesday, the situation was unchanged, with very few auxiliaries on duty, leaving some patients in distress as they needed help to use the bathroom.
