The Portuguese Association of People with Special Needs – Associação Sem Limites has issued a statement, after disabled badge holders have been fined due to the confusion among citizens regarding the validity of the Blue Card and the new badge models.
The association began by clarifying “that the European Blue Card is fully valid in Portugal, guaranteeing that there is ‘no legal obligation to replace or change said card.
The statement also mentions that the issuance of new models of badges is underway, which will have a format similar to the Citizen Card. However, according to information from the IMT, the badges currently in circulation, as long as they are within their respective validity period, will remain valid.
Finally, the association reminds that reserved parking spaces should only be used when the person with disabilities, to whom the badge was issued, is actually present in the vehicle, either as the driver or a passenger.
