The Portuguese Bar Association has announced the creation of a direct channel to receive complaints and contributions regarding the functioning of the Agency for Integration, Minorities and Asylum AIMA.
This new channel was created to enhance communication between lawyers and AIMA, aiming to alleviate the current pressure and unease.
AIMA currently leads in the number of complaints about its services, and the new channel will enable the Portuguese Bar Association to forward these complaints in bulk. However, it’s been stated that this channel is not due to any worsening issues people are experiencing with AIMA.
Moreover, the legal process is overwhelmed with AIMA cases because of a lack of response. As the saying goes, “If a lawyer has to take a public service to court to get an answer, then there is something fundamentally wrong with the service.”
Interestingly, AIMA services vary based on location, and they are working to streamline the process, as the documents accepted by an island provider may not be accepted on the mainland. It’s a situation that needs to be resolved.
