‘The People Decided, Decided Against Us

The São Vicente PSD suffered a possible unexpected defeat on Sunday to Chega.  The people wanted change and simply voted for someone else.

So when the Presiden of Madeira was asked if he was going to the Chega Mayors inauguration he replied, “I’m not sure. But what I tell you is a simple thing: the people choose, the people are sovereign. I don’t discuss the decisions of the people.”

The governor understands that the results in São Vicente, in which the PSD lost the Chamber to Chega, are a reflection of disagreements at the level of the militants. “I tried to do what was possible, which was to unite, but when people can’t understand each other, I cannot do better.”

When confronted with Alberto João Jardim’s statements about the “failure” of the PSD in these municipalities, particularly in the north, Albuquerque reacted by stressing that the PSD continues to be the main party in the Region. “The people chose consciously, he added. ” Local elections are very particular elections; people, in addition to the parties, vote for the candidates, and have protest votes, because they don’t like that personality, or when the party is divided, regardless of who they are.  We did, however, have an “important” victory in Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol.

Finally, and also pushed by journalists about the announcement of the president-elect by Chega in São Vicente that he intends to request an action for the seizure of municipal documentation and computer equipment, Albuquerque stressed that there will be no “witch hunt, because the accounts are all up to date. I hope they don’t make these sorts of allegations as an excuse for not working.” He replied caustically.

Perhaps, as one candidate put it ‘not everyone wants to play golf!”
