The PS candidate for the Presidency of the Municipality of Machico, Hugo Marques, announced the party’s objective of creating new car access and building a car park next to Praia da Maiata, in Porto da Cruz, to provide the necessary infrastructure needed to cope with high tourism demands.
Hugo Marques, who recently visited the area, noted that Praia da Maiata is very popular with residents and visitors to the island, not just for bathing but for various water sports such as surfing, bodyboarding, and paragliding, as well as walking along the coastline.
As the socialist candidate said, “the growing demand for the region’s beach areas has meant that a lack of car parking has created problems for both residents and visitors.”
This reality makes, according to the PS, the implementation of an urgent organised solution that responds to the current and future needs of that area imperative. So Hugo Marques defends the creation of a beach access, through Estrada da Maiata, with an exit through Caminho dos Muros, as well as the installation of a car park next to the wastewater treatment plant building, which, he warns, must either be restored and used or demolished as the building has been abandoned for years.
As the PS candidate points out, this new car park will not only serve bathers, but all those who want to walk to the centre of Porto da Cruz. However, for this, he warns that it is essential that the Regional Government fulfill its long-standing promise in the creation of a promenade between Maiata and the Porto da Cruz.
Concluding, he argues that the new proposed car park will allow easy access to the town, provide easy parking solutions, and decongest the town centre.
