The Funchal City Council (CMF) has assured that the report on the Cortel co-operative case will be presented by mid-September, making the entire process public.
In an interview, CMF President Cristina Pedra explained that the procedure “is in the process of being investigated” and that the legal deadline is still running.
According to the mayor, an investigation commission has been created, which is analysing all internal and external procedures in what is termed a “very formal” process.
“During the investigation deadline phase, all findings are confidential as per the Law. As yet, says Cristina Pedra, we are waiting for answers. Once we have all the information necessary, our investigation committee will present its report.
Once the report is finalized, Cristina Pedra mentioned that the CMF will take all necessary measures. If other organizations need to respond to the information shared, we will make sure they receive copies of the report so they can act accordingly.
At the same meeting, the provisional six-month licensing suspension for Local Lodging (AL) applications was approved, as well as the opening of a procedure for the creation of an AL regulation.
The President stressed that the current executive only ensures the survey of the situation, and the final decision on the policy for the sector is the competence of the next executive. “The procedure has already been given the opening and, therefore, from here on, whoever wins the elections will define the AL policy based on what it understands as appropriate for the city’s designs,” she concluded.
As for the position of the Coalition Confiança, which abstained from the vote, citing legal doubts about the suspension, Cristina Pedra was clear: “If it is illegal, take it to court.”
Social and educational support in the total amount of 200 thousand euros was also approved, including a thousand vouchers for school textbooks, 16 processes of the Taxi Plus 75 years, subsidies for births, daycare centers and medicines.
