TAXISRAM: Stop Issuing TVDE Licences

TaxisRam – Association of Taxis and other Land Transport of Madeira announced that tomorrow, the 12th of August, it will formally request the Legislative Assembly to implement a moratorium on TVDE and have an audience with the regional secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture to discuss the current situation of tourist entertainment companies and their impact on the Region.

During the morning, TáxisRam will deliver to the President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira a formal proposal to immediately suspend any increase in the TVDE fleet in the Region, until approval of a specific regulation adapted to the island becomes a reality.

The objective is to “curb unfair competition in the taxi sector, combat fare dumping practices and ensure sustainable mobility, compatible with Madeira’s territorial and environmental limitations.” “The National Law was made for the Continent. In Madeira, tourist pressure and the limited road network require their own rules. Through regulation, a general framework can be created through fair and just regulation,” declares Paulo Pereira, president of TáxisRam.

At 15:00, TáxisRAM will have an urgent meeting with the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture to discuss “the lack of effective regulation of tourist entertainment activity in Madeira.” According to the Association, “the absence of clear rules creates distortions in the market, threatens the quality and safety of public transport and compromises the sustainability of tourism in the Region.”

In addition, a review needs to be taken of why services such as TVDE and Bolt are so popular, so that those working in the Taxi industry can emulate their service models and provide a more effective, efficient, and cost-effective service.
